Last Christmas, my mom gave me a copy of a book that included a prayer based on Psalm 91.  From the first time I read this prayer, I knew for sure, that no matter what, the Lord promised to protect me from anything evil that could come my way:

"a thousand shall fall at (my) side, and ten thousand at (my) right hand; but it shall not come near (me)"   .........Psalm 91:7

I have believed in and loved God  my entire life, but I have just began realizing what has been promised to me in the Bible in the last couple of years.  Of course, things happen during the day that bring us down and make us want to give up; but I decided that that didn't need to happen.  I decided to read and think about this prayer everyday until it became my response to bad situations - I was protected and I didn't need to fear.

Late one Saturday night, around 2:00 am, three of us were driving home from a night out in Boston, MA.  We were driving steadily along the left lane of a two lane highway when, all of a sudden, a car tried to cut in front of us really close to our bumper.  The car didn't have enough room to fit in front of us because there was already a car there; instead, the car had to swerve back into the right lane, back to where it came from.  Unfortunately, in swerving back so quickly, the car clipped the back end of another vehicle and sent both of them swerving all over the road.  After what felt like an eternity, both cars rolled over multiple times off the highway and landed in the woods.  During this whole ordeal glass, metal, street signs, and other debris seemed to be raining from the sky all around us; but nothing hit us.  Even though this horrifying accident happened inches from our car, neither it nor us had even a scratch.  Praise God!
Another part of the Psalm says,

"He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler".......Psalm 91:4

This night, I saw that scripture played out right before my eyes.  Why else would something so terrible and so close not have even scraped us?  It all happened so fast - I didn't have time to quote the scripture; but I knew that it was Truth and we were protected.  I am thankful now that I was there then to help those people when they needed it and here now to tell you how God keeps His promises.
