"The
Great
Physician"
"I am God your Healer.”  Exodus 15:26 (MSG)

"As for you, I’ll come with healing,
   curing the incurable,
Because they all gave up on you
and dismissed you as hopeless.."  Jeremiah 30:17 (MSG)

"And the Lord will protect you from all sickness."  Exodus 7:15 (NLT)

"He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies." Psalm 103:3 & 4 (NLT)

If all of these promises are true, and they are, then why are so many people still sick? Many even die prematurely!
Answer:  They have not rightly appropriated the Word of God and what their Great Physician has done for them through the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Let me explain:

Exodus 12:21-23 Moses assembled all the elders of Israel. He said, “Select a lamb for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the bowl of blood (the blood of the slaughtered lamb) and smear it on the lintel and on the two doorposts. No one is to leave the house until morning. God will pass through......When He sees the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, God will pass over the doorway (covering the entrance to that house); He won’t let the destroyer (John 10:10 tells us who the destroyer is and it's not God) enter your house to strike you down with ruin. (because of the blood that was applied to the doorway of this house) 24-27 “Keep this word. It’s the law for you and your children, forever....." (MSG)

As a result of their obedience: protection, deliverance, prosperity and healing were the outcome.....those who refused to adhere to God were struck down by the destroyer

Exodus 12:37 "That night the people of Israel left Rameses and started for Succoth. There were about 600,000 men, plus all the women and children. 38 A rabble of non-Israelites went with them, along with great flocks and herds of livestock." (NLT)
And even after years of forced hard labor to the Egyptians -
Psalm 105:37 "And He led them out with silver and gold (nowhere to spend it but He gave it to them anyway); and none was sick in the lineages of them. (And he led them out with silver and gold; and no one was weak, or feeble, in all their tribes.) (WYC)

Who is this Passover Lamb whose blood was shed to keep God's people from destruction?

John 1:29 "The very next day John (the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, “Here He is, God’s Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! (MSG)

What happened in Moses' day was a foreshadowing of what was yet to come at another time........

John 3:16-18 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave His Son, His one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust Him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to Him.  (MSG)

Galatians 3:13 "Christ bought us with His blood and made us free from the Law. (and its penalties for breaking those laws - Deuteronomy 28:15-68) In that way, the Law could not punish us. Christ did this by carrying the load and by being punished instead of us. (NLV)

Here's the scene:

Isaiah 53:4 He suffered the things we should have suffered.
He took on himself the pain that should have been ours.
But we thought God was punishing him.
We thought God was wounding him and making him suffer.
5 But the servant was pierced because we had sinned.
He was crushed because we had done what was evil.
He was punished to make us whole again.
   His wounds have healed us....
We have wandered away from God.
All of us have turned to our own way.
And the Lord has placed on his servant
the sins of all of us. (NIRV) ............
7 And in the face of such oppression and suffering—silence.
Not a word of protest, not a finger raised to stop it.
....... like a lamb to be slaughtered,
he went—oh so quietly, oh so willingly.
8 Oppressed and condemned, he was taken away.....
He was, after all, cut off from the land of the living,
Smacked and struck, not on His account,
because of how my people (My people!) (God talking here about why Jesus had to go through this horror and who for)
Disregarded the lines between right and wrong.
   They snuffed out his life.....
Even though He did no wrong by word or deed.

2,000 yrs. ago Jesus became all that we were, quite literally.
In exchange, we can now become all that He is.  Recreated in His image and in His likeness, as if sin had never existed. He is the Great Physician who went above and beyond the call of duty to set His people free!

Simply put:  NO SIN MEANS NO PUNISHMENT!  NO SIN CONSCIOUSNESS MEANS GREAT CONFIDENCE, BOLDNESS OR FAITH BACKING OUR PRAYERS.

*2 Corinthians 5:21 "God orchestrated this: the Anointed One, who had never experienced sin, became sin for us so that in Him we might embody the very righteousness of God." (Voice)

Jesus talking:  John 8:36 "So think of it this way: if the Son comes to make you free, you will really be free." Are you?

1 Peter 2:24 "He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing."

Because of this Great Exchange or substitutionary work of God in the person of Jesus Christ we who come to Him are now treated graciously or in a way that we do not deserve.

* Romans 4:7 “It is a great blessing
when people are forgiven for the wrongs they have done,
   when their sins are erased!
8 It is a great blessing when the Lord accepts people
as if they are without sin!”

Hebrews 7:25
"Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost (completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity) those who come to God through Him..." (AMP)

Hebrews 2:14 "These children are people with physical bodies. So Jesus himself became like them and had the same experiences they have. Jesus did this so that, by dying, he could destroy the one who has the power of death—the devil. 15 Jesus became like these people and died so that he could free them."  (ERV)

So that your "GREAT PHYSICIAN" could free you!

John 8:32 "And you will understand the truth and the truth (that you understand) will make you free." (WE)
